Breastfeeding twins
Breastfeeding? Breast milk? Bottle?
Breastfeeding can be difficult – breastfeeding twins can be really difficult, so it is important to have good support, especially while you are establishing breastfeeding your twins or perhaps triplets.
With a good double twin nursing pillow and a double breast pump you will go a long way in the first time.
The same applies if your babies need a feeding bottle. If you can pump milk, you need a good breast pump – a double pump cuts the pumping time in half and in a busy everyday life with newborns, it’s about creating the extra time you can.
Regardless of whether you breastfeed or bottle-feed, it is important that you sit ergonomically well. It can take several hours a day to feed twins and it is important that you also take care of your body in the meantime. A good pillow for breastfeeding or bottle can help you to a better position and support your arms and back.
Nursing pillows or bottle pillows for twins
Regardless of whether you breastfeed your twins or not, a good nursing or bottle pillow can make a huge difference in everyday life! When the twins have to be breastfed or have a bottle, it is most optimal that you have a pillow that you can also use when you are alone with the babies. A pillow should ideally support and be comfortable, so that the experience of feeding your twins becomes a good and pleasant time.
Breast pumps â Double pump for parents of twins
Regardless of whether your twins or triplets are breastfed or bottle-fed with expressed breast milk, a good breast pump is a must have to get closer to a good start to breastfeeding.
Maybe your twins were born prematurely and have difficulty breastfeeding yet, maybe you just need to increase the production of milk, or need to leave the house one day? A good breast pump is the way forward no matter what! Medela has both the original double breast pump and a hands-free one so you can have your arms free – because there is enough to look after with twins or triplets!
Storage of expressed breast milk
Breast milk is a precious commodity â full of nutrition and antibodies for your twins. Therefore, the collection and storage must be done correctly. After pumping, the milk can be stored in several ways, in either the fridge or freezer, depending on how quickly it is used. Your fresh breast milk can last approx. 3 days in the fridge and approx. 6 months in the freezer.
Medela’s bottles and bags are BPA-free and can be used to store breast milk.
